Historie
Den gamle havn Aabenraa Båd Club was born on august 22. 1977.

A statutory general meeting was held at the “Folkehjemmet” in Aabenraa. It all began in ASC old port in Nyhavn at the southern part of Aabenraa Shipyard and Motor factory. At the waterfront there was a short jetty; on the jetty’s southern end there was a hoisting shear and a small place for towing. From the shed on shore there was a decrepit wooden bridge capable of holding 15-20 small boats. Next to it there was a pontoon bridge, it belonged to Skifter Marine. Additionally there were two concrete bridges and a wooden bridge on which ABC had its boat sites.

In 1977, The Municipality of Aabenraa demanded that a Boat Guild or Club was to be created.
In 1979 ABC was allowed to build a new wooden bridge. We later bought Skifter’s pavilion, bridge and inflatable hall, now the club had over 5 bridges and a clubhouse at its disposal. Concrete bridges were replaced with floating bridges, as we knew that we were about to move later on.

The Municipality of Aabenraa decided that ABC should move the clubhouse and the inflating hall further south and that we should unite with the powerboat club “Sydhavnen”. In 1982 ABC became a member of “Dansk Sejlunion”, “Dansk Motor union” and “Samvirkende Idrætsklubber I Aabenraa (SIKA).

The Harbour committee urged ABC to make a sketch of a new harbour for ABC in the area north of the ASC Marina on the coastal road, and to make contact with ASC to further cooperation. The sketch was made and sent to the Municipality of Aabenraa.
At the statutory general meeting in 1984, ABC´s new dream harbour was presented. It was designed by our own member and architect, Jørgen Høeck. The board was told to go on with the plans. A build foundation was made. A number of meetings were held with ASC.
In 1985, at the request of ABC, a meeting was held with the municipality, the harbour board, ASC and ABC´s boards. The municipality displayed its plan for the usage of the water area south of Mølleåen.
There was however not enough space for all wishes, and the mayor, therefore, asked the two clubs to unite.

Den nye havnA special harbour board was created; from ABC it was Ernst Thomsen and Sten Mahler.
At the statutory general meeting in 1986 a new chairman was chosen, Svend Anton Larsen from Aabenraa. It was approved to join the Freeport arrangement. Haar Benzin took over the area behind our bridges and built a great tank system, which meant that our parking options were demolished.

The access conditions to the bridges were very bad, but the problem was solved in the springtime, as Haar Benzin finished the safety embankment around the tank system and Stema finished the construction of a store building for the use of agricultural limestone. In 1987 a new and moveable clubhouse was built with a kitchen, a bath and a lavatory, which is the same as the one we have today.

The municipality of Aabenraa ensured us that our bridge- and water area was secured some years ahead and they promised that the day the club should move they were obliged to help us with new areas as well with the other water clubs. Now we could catch a glimpse of the sun behind the clouds.
In 1990 the new harbour of ABC was inaugurated with a great and voluntary workforce.
